F2 Baku - 2021
The highlight of Azerbaijan was taking Pole in the qualifying session after a one-lap dash to the chequered flag against his Hitech GP and Red Bull Junior teammate Juri Vips.
At the end of the single Practice session Liam was 11th, but after analyzing the fastest overall lap by Vips, he returned to the track for qualifying and smashed out a time of 1:54.217 – the fastest ever F2 lap in the Dallara 2018 recorded at Baku, previously held by Alex Albon at 1:54.480.
However, starting from P10 in the first of the reverse grid races, Liam was taken out of the race from an incident between two other drivers at the second corner.
That meant he started from P20. Avoiding the action in front of him Liam moved up 6 places quickly and steadily worked his way forward to 6th before accidentally switching the car off and dropping several places. Over the remaining laps he recovered to 7th with another magnificent pass on Oscar Piastri, the same driver he stole the lead off in Monaco with an equalling stunning manoeuvre.
A slower getaway from pole in the Feature race immediately put Liam on the defensive as Juri jumped into the lead. A move to defend his position was judged too aggressive and he was slapped with a 10s time penalty, which he served at the time of his pitstop. By race end it was 6th place and points.
