F2 YAS ISLAND - 2022
The season ended with another double podium weekend at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island circuit where Liam was on ‘double-duty’ again, racing F2 and driving the F1 Free Practice 1 session with Red Bull in Max Verstappen’s car.
A late qualifying charge by his rivals saw Liam P9 to start the top ten reverse-grid Sprint race from the front row. After hounding the race leader over the early laps Liam stole the lead midway and then skipped off to win the race by nearly 8-seconds.
From his P9 start in the Feature race Liam moved up five spots before grabbing another place in the compulsory pit-stop when Carlin pulled off a lightning fast stop and put in back out in third place. Liam hauled in the front duo at times but then needed to back away to ‘cool’ his car’s tyres. As the front battle heated up over the closing stages Liam again hauled up to them and took the chequered flag half-a-second behind 2nd place.
The double podium results lifted him from 7th to 3rd in the F2 championship in one weekend! He headed off his Carlin teammate Logan Sargeant to claim 3rd place by a single point.
