Super Formula cars are the closest in terms of speed and lap time to a current Formula 1 car. The championship is over 50 years old and is the top-level single-seater racing category in Japan. Over that time only 13 non-Japanese resident drivers have won the SF championship, the last being New Zealander Nick Cassidty in 2019. For 2023 the cars feature new bodywork to lessen the downforce and create better and closer racing. 22 cars are on the SF grid, all using the same chassis but powered by either a Honda or Toyota engine. Liam drives for the 2022 championship winning Team Mugen in the #15 car for his debut season.
